We are never complete. We are a cumulus of empty spaces ready to be filled, explored, expanded. As humans, we go beyond and above to be more than our primordial needs, to find a sense of purpose, to coexist and belong. Sometimes, we fill those empty spaces with screens that recount the stories of others, games, books, and overstimulating situations. We fear emptiness and exploration of self most of the time. Yet, what would happen if being in the moment meant surrendering to those spaces, taking in their void, and accepting their lack of meaning, their need for growth? Could it be that what we fear and work hard to hide would be the answer to everything that makes each of us be?
I surrender to those spaces when I walk; I use them as drawers, filling them with stories, images, trail memories and unique bonds with other walking humans; other times, I do a deep cleanse and move what they stored into different places inside of me which guide my everyday life; and when I abandon my need to explore, I experience their vastness as it is.
The following trails are the ones that left a deep emotional imprint on my soul and shifted my perspective on how I approach what life throws my way. You can find many technical, detailed information about the trails I’ve walked; what I’d like to share with you is how the paths I walked on shaped pieces of my puzzle, and allowed me to sit with my empty spaces.
